Low Sunday or the Feast of Divine Mercy? I’m occasionally surprised by attitudes towards the visionaries. They must always be treated sceptically, but here’s something quite good. In fact the Divine Mercy prayers are far, far older than Sr. Maria Faustina. I’m inclined to take this as Holy Father John Paul II did when he [...]

Counting down to Divine Mercy Sunday, here is my favourite link to the Divine Mercy prayers. As given here, Pope John Paul II declared the second Sunday of Easter to be Divine Mercy Sunday in 2000.

This is good, very good: Catholic flash cards answering common protests. Nice baseball cartoons from Jim Borgman. I [...]

The Telegraph seems distressed (or does it?) to discover that “the number of Muslims worshipping at mosques in England/Wales will outstrip the numbers of Roman Catholics going to church in little more than a decade”. Here’s the article link. Carefully chosen words. Startling that in that first paragraph, Roman Catholics are alone equated with ‘traditional [...]

It’s no fun tripping over yourself while serving at the Old Form Mass. I shall have to memorise the newer (to me) Latin responses, like all good altar boys used to do. Fortunately, our priests are far more tolerant than most others would be.

I accidentally dialled Emergency Services yesterday evening and got an answer on the first ring. A nice reminder that there are good people still working twenty four hours on a bank holiday. And they are very friendly, too, when they realise you make a mistake. I like the UK because of small things like this.

Ah, Easter, that wonderful time of the year when things at church shine far more than usual. Flowers, courtesy of wonderful people in the congregation. The reappearance of countless saints from behind their purple veils.

Despite my intention to stay online through the Triduum and the fact that I will have about a thousand posts waiting for me on Monday in my e-mail and RSS reader, I will have to switch off. I’m going to be helping at the church this weekend fulltime. Ad maiorem Dei gloriam.

Is it St. Cyril Day today? St. Cyril of Jerusalem (315-386 AD) was declared Doctor of the Church in 1822. He was a priest in Jerusalem and lived much of his life in exile, locked in a battle with the Arian heresy. More information here.
