Today is the memorial to St. Mary the Magdalene. No shortage of Mary the Magdalene books around the world. But not as a saint, St. Mary is portrayed as some sort of sacred feminine with a gospel of her own.

A book I saw today, I didn’t even bother to remember the name, claims that Mary was named by the Lord as ‘Magdalene’ because the name meant ‘like a tower’ or something. That’s strange, I thought Magdala was a place. Of course, she also had a child and travelled to Gaul. No, it wasn’t the da Vinci Heresy.
