Indian militia group kidnaps nuns after assaulting and killing priest!? And for what? Alleged conversions of Hindus to Christianity at a hospital. I call this an outrage. Aren’t people free to think? All these generous-hearted nuns and priests do is provide aid to sick people. If their acts of charity bring about conversion, they are [...]

Sts. Peter and Paul
By coincidence, in my progress through the Bible, I’m halfway through Actus. I rediscover with awe the daring and bravery of the twelve and the thousands of new Christians in those first decades of the Church as they battled the Jewish and Roman authorities. I read of the tragic martyrdom of Stephen [...]

Renting wombs?!
Here’s a ghastly little bit of pagan atrocity coming home, and being welcomed for money. In this link to India’s Times of India, foreigners are coming to India looking for surrogate mothers to deliver babies they can’t themselves for medical reasons. The sample couple is Korean, the woman reasoning that:
- she feels connected physically [...]

Mother God? Ridiculous
What’s more ridiculous is that people, Catholics and other Christians alike, are speaking about what this Schori woman, who became the first Episcopalian church bishop, said last week on the subject.
God is not ‘Mother’. We have historical record of the Christ, who called God ‘Father’. We’re talking about record that was held sacred, [...]

A voice cries out in the desert…
Dear St. John, he lived a hard life and fulfilled his proclaimed destiny. Here’s the description of St. John from Halley’s Bible handbook:
The story of John’s childhood and youth is passed over in a sentence. He shunned the habitations of men, living in the solitude of the wild and [...]

Here’s a snip from today’s Gospel:
Orántes autem, nolíte multum loqui, sicut éthnici, putant enim quod in multilóquio suo exaudiántur. Nolíte ergo assimilári eis : scit enim Pater vester, quid opus sit vobis, ántequam petátis eum. Matthew 6:7-8
A largely ignored bit, as people pray frantically for things they don’t get. What it says, really, is: do [...]

St. Mary the Magdalene
This is an extract from Mr. H. H. Halley’s Bible handbook. Take it as you will:
Mary Magdalene was the most prominent and outstanding leader among the women. She is named more than any of the others, and usually first. She was the first to whom Jesus appeared after his resurrection. [...]

Solemnity of the Sacred Heart
June 21, 2006 | Leave a Comment
I’m heartily sorry for not maintaining a devotion to the Sacred Heart. And I’m heartily sorry to not be able to attend the service, being stuck on an oil rig in the middle of the Arabian Sea.
Fortunately, the precepts of the Church allow someone that cannot attend service to say the Mass prayers privately.

Jeff Geerling has a nice Dashboard widget for Macs at his blog site. I don’t use a Mac, but I like this idea. Vista is, oh, so distant yet.
The picture is Mr. Geerling’s, not mine, obviously. But it’s so slick, I couldn’t resist. Download the widget for your Mac at the link above.

Ego sum panis vivus, qui de cælo descéndi. Si quis manducáverit ex hoc pane, vivet in ætérnum : et panis quem ego dabo, caro mea est pro mundi vita. Evangelium Secundum Joanneam 6:51:52.
I was disappointed yesterday to find only a daily Mass at Church; I may have to miss Mass on Sunday. The picture is [...]
